There was a bare minimum squad of just six for this away game and so with no subs available, all the players played the full 40 mins. With our regular goalies missing Jake, Josh, Samuel and Callum each played a quarter in goal and Samuel was captain for the match. The Sharks had plenty of possession in the first quarter, but were not able to get any shots on target. The Cobras were first to the ball on many occasions and did not allow our players any time on the ball. The Cobras made the breakthrough with a well taken goal to go 1-0 up. The 2nd quarter the Sharks started getting their shots in. Joseph threaded a ball into Jake whose shot was well saved by the keeper. Jake was unlucky again later when the keeper made another fine save. Harvey and Callum made crucial tackles at the back and Joseph and Samuel kept running with limited space with the Cobras still keeping things tight. Against the run of play, the Cobras increased their lead with a goal resulting from a corner (2-0). The Sharks did not let their heads drop. They were soon back in the game, when a speculative shot from Joseph went underneath their keeper (2-1). Joseph kept up the pressure and had another shot well saved and so the score remained 2-1 at half time. Quarter 3 started with the Sharks now playing down the hill. Joseph took a corner which fizzed in and hit the far post. Minutes later the move of the match followed. Harvey strong at the back made a crucial tackle. The loose ball was then picked up by Josh who passed to Jake, he then crossed it into the path of Joseph, who fired the ball into the net (2-2). At the other end a free kick was given just outside the box. The Cobras fired a shot in and a combination of Samuel’s save and Josh’s clearance kept the scores level. In the final quarter the Sharks were getting tired, but still went for the win. Joseph was full of running and the team kept going right to the end. There were no further goals however and the result ended with a hard fought draw. Great display and commitment from the 6 Sharks that played, which deserved a narrow win.
