CITY COLTS[4]v TWYFORD COMETS [4]aet.COLTS WIN 4-3.ON PENS.QTR.FINAL.COUNTY CUP. Well what a fantastic game of football today between 2 teams both top of their respective div.one league.It would have graced the final.Putting us into the semi-final of the county cup.Twyford travelled from reading with an unbeaten record.But when you get to the latter rounds of the county cup you know who ever you play will be good.I told the boys they need to fear no one,if they play to their potential,theirs no one better,but as you see today at this level theirs a fine line between success and failure.After 20 mins of great football by both teams,ashley dumbleton put us ahead with a good finish.1-0.Twyford were soon back on terms with a good finish.1-1.On 30.mins.ashley dumbleton restored our lead with a good strike.2-1.Then 5 mins later shaun glassett finished a good move.3-1.But just before the break twyford reduced the lead.h/t.3-2.Unfortunetely at half time we lost our stalwart c/def.jacob prichard.we were always going to miss him.In the secound half we were awarded a penalty to go 4-2 up,but a great save by their keeper denied ashley.As the game went on both sets of boys played some quality football all battling on yet again a boggy pitch.20 mins remaining and twyford leveled things up 3-3.From then on it was end to end box football no team wanting to lose.The whistle blew.f/t.3-3.Another 20 mins to play.In the first half of extra time twyford took the lead 3-4.The second half of extra-time would see twyford defend resolutely our attacks,then trying to hit us on the counter.With 2 mins.of time remaining daniel simpson finished well to level.f/t.4-4.Time for the dreaded penalties,and that old football cliche no team deserved to lose this.After 2 penalties each we were 2-1.down.But our boys never know when there beat.And our keeper chris illingworth who was superb today pulled of a save.With twyford missing 2 penaltys it was down to our last penalty taker jason sykes.A wiggle to the left a wiggle to the right,oh no whats he doing,but cooly slotted the ball home.To the players,parents,coaches delight twyfords unbeaten record was over and after this titanic battle we were in the semi-finals.4-3.on pens.In summing up all the boys showed today what a quality outfit they are.And respect to twyford comets also a quality side.It was nice at the end for r.porter.ref to come over to say what a quality game it was.But next week its the citi.cup.against gt.linford.who we wont be takeing lightly.Squad today.chris illingworth.ben ford.robbie.mottershead.jacob prichard.tamin salim.jason sykes.mark hunn.dougie.shaun glassett.ashley dumbleton.scotty bitra.luke chapman.jason ilunga.grady fryer.tyler trower.daniel simpson.scorers.ashley dumbleton.2.shaun glassett.1.daniel simpson 1.penalty scorers.dougie.1.mark hunn.1.ben.ford.1.jason sykes.1.cheers martin.
